Since I was very little I always wanted to give my blood to people that needed it. I know the importance of doing so since so many are in need of blood transfusion under or beside surgeries. I figured out that I first had to be 18. When I filled 18 I consulted with my parents and my mom (who is working in this field and have been a blood donor before) and agreed strongly that I could do so. In biology class recently, we got to test out our blood types and i crossed my fingers and hoped that I would be a blood type O. Blood type O is the only blood type that can give to all the blood types but can only receive blood from someone that only has blood type O. Through the experiment I found out that I actually was blood type O. I saw this as a sign that I should go forth with being a blood donor. And so I did. I signed up for being a blood donor and will try to contact the hospital as soon as possible to arrange a test since I first need to know if my blood is healthy enough to be given out and if I actually am blood type O (I can still give if I am not).

Hospital meeting
I went to the hospital to take an interview before I did the test. So I mentally prepared myself and was so excited to be able to help. But after I had answered some questions, she told me that I was not fit to be a blood donor as I have lived 5 years in Ethiopia or more. She said that people who has lived for 5 years or longer in countries below Sahara may have something in their blood that they do not want to risk giving to people. I have lived in Norway since I was 9-10 but that did not help either. And so my dreams were crushed. BUT, she said that other countries may not have a problem it and so I plan on taking this interview in Ireland where I will study in University.
